Zebra Fish
500
If you are purchasing or culturing marine rotifers for your zebra fish, here is a simply protocol for putting
the rotifers in freshwater without the osmotic pressures exploding them:
Pour them through the 75 micrometer screen then rinse them on the screen with fresh water.
Poured the concentrated rotifers into a cup with freshwater-- re-suspend. They'll stay alive for a while--long
enough to interest the fish.
Whatever doesn't get eaten can be siphoned off the bottom.
This is a good technique for feeding in doses. You can maintain a happy rotifer culture in seawater and take
what you need each time you feed. By re-suspending in the fish-culture water you don't change any of the parameters
for the fish (i.e. salinity, temperature, pH.).
