Rotifer FAQ

What is the de-watered weight of 1 "L" type million rotifers?   5 grams when blotted dry with a paper towel
I'm going away on vacation - how do I keep my rotifers alive?    We recommend storing them in your refrigerator at 4-6 C (40-43 F).
1) Start the hybernation process by putting a plastic bag containing ice in your culture tank - make sure the air stays on
2) If you are going to put the entire tank in the refrigerator, put a double dose of Nannochloropsis in the water. If you will be filtering the rotifers into a different container put the extra algae is that container.
3) When the rotifers have cooled to 10 C (50F) put them in the refrigerator. They will not need an air supply at this point.
4) When you return home let the tank gradually warm up over 24 hours. Add algae if necessary. Turn the air supply on to a low level but do NOT boil the surface until the temperature is at least 20 C (70 F).
